Part 1 cont. Defining Price Fields This is the process of describing the different types of prices within your QuarkXPress publication. These different types of price fields might be unit price, bulk price, 100 off price etc. If your publication only has one category of price then this will be all you need define. For our particular price list demo you will need to define 2 prices and 1 quantity field as follows: 1. Select 'Show Markup Palette' from the PriceIt menu. 2. Select 'Define New Field' from the PriceIt menu The Enter Field Name Dialogue box will appear as below.   At this point you can assign whatever fields required along with a hot key for easy assigning of the field to the page. 3. Type 'Price' and click OK. Notice how the 'Price' field appears in the floating Markup Palette. 4. Repeat this process entering the field names of 'Quantity Break' and 'Quantity Price'.   Note: The choice of field names is entirely down to you and does not have to correspond to the field names used in your database or speadsheet. Also fields can be added at any time. Marking up the page Marking up the page is the process of assigning the field names we have just defined to the actual prices or text on the page. This process also allows us to tell PriceIt which Record Keys (e.g. Stock Numbers or SKUs. see above) are associated with each price. 1. Highlight Stock Number D40113T on the Price List Demo page. 2. Double-click the Record Key from the Markup Palette. This established the record to which the prices will be linked. Notice that the Stock number is underlined in red., indeicating that it is the current Record Key. Subsequent markups will also be in red providing visual confirmation that you are linking the appropriate text to the appropriate Record Key as below.   3. Highlight the price to the right of the stock number D40113T 4. Double-click on price field in the Markup Palette We have now instructed PriceIt to apply the Price for the Stock Number D40113T 5. Moving horizontally to the right, highlight the Quantity Break for the stock number D40113T 6. Double-click on the Quantity Break Field in the Markup Palette 6. Repeat the process for the Quantity Price also You have now marked up the first row in the pricing table. Although in this particular example the items are all in the same row in the same text box, this is not essential. The record key could be located on one page and the prices on completely different ones. 7. Now repeat the above markup process for the next line in the table, marking the stock number D40372A as the record key and then the price, quantity break and quantity price with their relevant fields in the Markup Palette. Automating Table Markups You could now repeat this process for each stock number in the table, however when your pricing appears in a tabular format, PriceIt has a labour saving feature for marking up the entire table. This is done as follows. 1. Select the whole of the line that you have just marked up (either the line for the stock number D40113T or D40372A). Now either select Copy Markups from the PriceIt menu or click the copy markups button on the Markup Palette. PriceIt has how copied the structure of the markups to memory. To replicate the markup structure perform the following: 2. Highloght the remaining unmarked items in the pricing table 3. Choose Paste Markups from the PriceIt menu or click the paste markups button on the Markup Palette You will observe that all of the relevant information has now been marked up and appears with the underlines in place to show this. Your page should now look like the example below.   You have now learnt the entire process for marking up a document for use with PriceIt If your table doesn't look like the one above, try beginning this demo again following the instructions carefuly. Alternatively proceed to Part 2 in which you will find a pre-prepared QuarkXPress document ready for the update process. Otherwise please continue. Verifying the Marked Up Text Although it is not necessary to verify marked up text, PriceIt has a powerful feature for checking that markups have been appied correctly. This can be a very helpful method for checking that no mistakes have been made in the process. The Edit Palette displays all the PriceIt information for any marked item on the page. 1. Select Show Edit Palette from the PriceIt menu 2. Click on the D40113T stock number in the first line of the pricing table The edit palette should now display the following information   3. Now click on the price field or any of the other marked up fields and you should be able to see and check all of the related PriceIt information for each field. This process allows you to quickly and easily verify your markups. Further powerful automatic proofing is available by selecting Proof by Key and Proof by Field from the Toolbox section of the PriceIt menu. These processes replace the marked fields with their associated Record Key or Field name respectively. This provides a rapid visual confirmation of all markups.
